Social Action at WES

The WES Social Action Committee serves to encourage members of our congregation to express their Jewish Values concerning Tikkun Olam—Making The World A Better Place—by encouraging members to participate in volunteer activities in the greater Nashville community. By forming ongoing relationships with A variety of non-profit organizations and providing A framework for involvement, the committee hopes to improve the lives of those in need and to enhance the quality of life for all Nashvillians. The committee helps to increase awareness of various social issues including Poverty, Hunger, Social Justice, Homelessness, and Gender Identity.

Twice A year the SAC sponsors A Social Action Day. This is an opportunity for both members of The Beit Miriam Religious School and members of the congregation to participate in A variety of social action projects in the greater Nashville community related to Environmental Concerns, Hunger, and other areas of participation. Each year in early December social action Shabbat is held to encourage congregational participation and to recognize A congregational Volunteer of the Year for Outstanding Service to our Nashville Community. Each year the social action committee sponsors A forum for discussion of topics of interest to the community such as Immigration, Social Justice, Opioid Abuse, and Refugee Concerns.
